Hort 3140 Grading System

The course grade will consist of the following components:

However, there are no makeups and quizzes may be pop quizzes or scheduled

Please take note of the grading system and scale. When warranted, individual assignments will be graded on a curve. However, exam and final grades are not curved and follow the posted scale as written.

Exams:
Exams will be closed book and you will be tested on your understanding of interiorscape management principles. Exams are cumulative with respect to course material. However, the major emphasis will be placed on material covered after the most recent exam.
 
Makeup Exams:
There will be no makeup exams given, unless you notify me before (voice mail and e-mail offer communications options 24 hours each day; I understand that emergency situations may not allow prior notification by students) the exam and explain why you cannot take the exam when scheduled; and you provide proper documentation for your absence. All makeup exams given must be taken at a time agreeable to the student and instructor outside of regularly scheduled course hours.
 
Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given as scheduled duirng lecture sessions. In the event of snow day delays or other events beyond the control of the instructor, quizzzes will be rescheduled. The schedule is tentative. POP quizzxes may be given. No makeup quizzes will be given , but students do get to drop their lowest quiz score prior to final grade averaging.
 
Student Project:
Each student will be required to submit an interiorscape proposal. Students are asked to assess an interiorscape environment (Example: The Student Union, The Space Center, The UGA Soil Test laboratory, etc.) of their choice and make a proposal for installing a compliment of plants. The student will have to select the plants, the design aspects including placcement and containers, outline maintenance, adjustments such as lighting, water, and provide an cost estimate based upon industry standards. This Proposal should be no less than 4 and no more than 10 pages in length, typed as double spaced text, not including drawing, digital pictures or tables. The report should be typed, and literature citations provided. Completed projects are due March 2nd, 2007. Steps to successful completion of this project will be covered during the first days of class. An example of an "A" project from last year will be available for inspection.
Assignment Deadline Policy:
Late assignments (excluding tardy assignments due to excused absences) will be assessed a 10% penalty during the first 24 hours following the deadline, 20% during the second 24 hour period, 30% during the third 24 hour period, etc. It is in your best interest to submit a completed assignment prior to its deadline. Teaching assistants are not allowed to waive this policy.
